Privacy policy

You are being asked to photograph something you would not show a friend. That deserves a policy you can actually read, so this one says what we collect, who touches it, and how to make it go away.

This policy covers the Butt Talks website, the early-access list, the free guide and the Butt Talks app. Butt Talks is the controller of the personal data described here.

Effective date: 4 September 2026

Your photos

This is the section that matters most, and it is the same wording you will find in the FAQ, on purpose. One set of promises, written once.

  • Your photos are stored securely in your account
  • No human at Butt Talks ever sees them
  • They are never used to train any model
  • Analysis is performed by a third-party AI provider under a no-training agreement

In practice: when you log a poop, the app sends the image to a third-party AI provider, which classifies it and sends back a reading. The photo then lives in your account so you can see your own history. Nobody on our team browses it, and no provider is permitted to keep it for training.

You can delete any log, or your whole account, at any time, and deletion means deletion. Deleting a log removes the photo from your account and from our live storage. Routine backups are cycled out on their normal schedule, and nothing is restored from them except to recover from a failure.

What we collect and why

If you join the waitlist

We store your email address, the platform you told us you use, the page or campaign you came from, and the time you signed up. That is the whole record. We keep it so we can email you when the app is ready and so we know which platform to build for first.

If you download the guide

We store your email address so our email provider can send you the PDF, and so we know the download happened. Getting the guide adds you to the same early-access list, and every email we send has an unsubscribe link.

If you use the app

  • Account details, such as your email address and password, so the account is yours and only yours.
  • Your logs: photographs, Bristol types, timings, symptoms and any notes you add. This is health information about you, and we treat it that way.
  • Subscription status, told to us by the App Store or Google Play so we know which features to unlock. We never see your card.
  • Technical data, such as device type, app version and crash reports, so we can fix what breaks.

If you book a Nurse Wong session

We collect what is needed to arrange and hold the call, and anything you choose to share during it. Sessions are not recorded unless everyone on the call agrees first.

However you arrive

Our analytics tell us which pages were viewed, which buttons were pressed, roughly where in the world the visit came from, and what kind of device it was on. We use it to work out which parts of the site are working. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

We never sell your personal data, and we never share your photographs or your logs with advertisers, insurers or employers.

Third parties who touch your data

We use a small number of companies to run the service. Each one is a processor acting on our instructions under a contract, each gets only what its job needs, and none of them may use your data for their own purposes.

  • Hosting. Our hosting provider runs this website and our servers, and handles the traffic that reaches them.
  • Database and storage. Supabase holds our database, including the early-access list and, in the app, your account and your logs.
  • Analytics. PostHog records the product analytics described above so we can see how the site and the app are used.
  • AI classification. A third-party AI provider classifies the photograph you submit and returns a reading. It works under a no-training agreement, as set out in the photos section above.
  • Email delivery. Our email provider sends the guide and the launch announcements. It receives your email address and nothing from your logs.
  • App stores. Apple and Google process purchases made inside the app and tell us only whether a subscription is active.
  • Video calls. If you book a session, the video platform we use carries the call.

We will also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect someone from harm. If the business is ever sold or merged, your data may move with it, and we will tell you before that happens. For the current list of named processors, write to support@butttalkstv.com.

If you are in the UK, the EU or somewhere with similar law, these are the legal bases we rely on.

  • Your explicit consent for health data. A photograph of your stool is health data about you, so we process it only because you chose to log it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting the log or your account.
  • Your consent for the early-access list, the guide and any marketing email. One unsubscribe link ends it.
  • Performing our contract with you for running your account, your subscription and a booked session.
  • Our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure, fixing faults and understanding how the product is used, balanced against your privacy.
  • Legal obligation where we have to keep records, for example for tax.

Data retention: how long we keep it

  • Your logs and photographs stay for as long as your account is open, because the whole point is the history. They go when you delete them or when you close the account.
  • Your account is deleted when you ask us to delete it.
  • Early-access emails stay until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, or until the launch they were collected for is done.
  • Analytics is kept in aggregate for as long as it is useful for product decisions.
  • Billing and tax records are kept for as long as the law requires, even after an account closes.
  • Backups are overwritten on their normal cycle, so a deleted item can persist there briefly before it is gone for good.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for any of the following, and we will not make it difficult.

  • Access. A copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Deletion. Erasure of your data. You can delete a log or your whole account in the app, or ask us to do it.
  • Correction of anything we hold that is wrong.
  • Portability. Your logs in a file you can take elsewhere, including to your doctor.
  • Objection and restriction. Ask us to stop or pause a particular use of your data.
  • Withdrawing consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.
  • No discrimination. Using any of these rights will never get you a worse price or a worse service.

Write to support@butttalkstv.com and we will respond within one month. We may need to check that the request really came from you, since these are your health records. If you are unhappy with how we handled it, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses cookies and similar storage for two things: keeping the site working, and product analytics through PostHog so we can count page views, button presses and which pages people leave from.

We do not run advertising cookies and we do not let third parties track you across other websites from here. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, and where the law requires a consent banner you will get one and your choice will be respected. We also honour a Global Privacy Control signal if your browser sends one.

Children

Butt Talks is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and we do not market to them. If you believe a child has given us their data, write to support@butttalkstv.com and we will delete the account and its contents.

Where your data goes

Our providers operate internationally, so your data may be processed in a country other than your own, including the United States. Where data leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on the safeguards the law provides, such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision, and we require the same protection from the provider wherever the servers happen to be.

Security

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to production systems is limited to the few people who need it to keep the service running, and it is logged. Your photographs sit behind your account, and no member of our team browses them.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If there is a breach that puts you at risk, we will tell you and the relevant regulator without delay, and we will tell you what actually happened.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as the product changes. If a change affects your photographs, your rights or who processes your data, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect, rather than quietly editing this page.
